Kate Douglas–Wolf Tales

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/KateDouglas/

I’ve been writing professionally since my first job out of college in 1972 when I went to work writing commercials for a country western radio station in Turlock, Califronia. I’ve been a cartoonist, a newspaper reporter, worked in a winery and freelanced various articles, but have always considered myself, first and foremost, a writer. I started my fiction career with small epublishers in the late nineties, and currently write for Kensington Publishing in NY where I have an erotic paranormal series called Wolf Tales. The 11th book in the series released in July, and I’m writing number fifteen, if you count the novellas in anthologies. I’ve been married for over 36 years, have a grown son and daughter, four grandchildren and number five due in September. Life is good!

The Writer:

1) What is the best thing about being a writer? The worst?

The best thing is writing. I love it when a story comes together and I can lose myself in my imaginary world. The worst thing? I can’t think of anything–I love all of it, from writing to edits and revisions to seeing the book on the shelves of book stores. I really love it when I hear from readers who enjoy the stories. I don’t even mind the deadlines–I may grumble about them, but they mean I’ve still got someone out there who wants my books!

2) What is your method of breaking through writer’s block?

Lots of things help–taking a walk, a long shower, even shutting down the computer and reading a good book. The best way for me to break through a slow spot is to get in the car and drive somewhere on a really familiar road. Something about engaging part of my brain in the process of driving seems to free up the creative part of my mind.

3) Do you bring your own life experiences to your writing? Your own personality? If so how?

Very much so–I think all authors write what they know. My characters have my sense of humor and their personality traits often either mirror my own or traits I find admirable in people I know. My husband’s personality comes through in a lot of my heroes, but that’s because he’s got a lot of really good qualities I admire. The sex, of course, comes mostly from a totally wicked imagination and a lot of reading about alternative sexuality. Personally, I’m not nearly as adventurous as my Chanku, and I can’t recall even one time lusting after a shapeshifting wolf…

4) What fuels you as an author to continue to write?

I have absolutely no idea, though writing defines me. I am a writer. Period. It’s what I do, it’s who I am and I can’t imagine not writing. I feel very passionate about my work. Some readers may dismiss it as nothing more than entertaining genre romance, but I take my writing seriously and absolutely love what I do. I guess I’d have to say I can’t imagine NOT writing!

5) Can you tell us a bit about what book(s) you have coming out next and what you’re working on now?

I’m currently writing Wolf Tales VIII, which will come out in July 2009. It continues the story of six characters introduced in Chanku Honor, my novella in Sexy Beast VI coming out next Spring. I’m writing it as a two part book with a tie in at the end, so it’s a bit different, but so far I’m happy with what I’ve got. I just finished copy edits for Wolf Tales VII which comes out next January. It’s a very emotional story, and for readers familiar with my series, if you like Anton Cheval, I can guarantee you won’t read the book without a box of Kleenex handy! I bawled all the way through the ending when I was writing it, worried I wouldn’t be able to come up with a happy ending, but I got it!

The Person:

1) Which season do you prefer? Spring, Summer, Fall or Winter?

Whichever one comes next. I couldn’t wait for summer and now I’m looking forward to the Fall. Each season has its own charm and I love them all. The long, hot summer nights, the crisp air in autumn, snow in the winter and all the fresh, new green leaves in spring…how can anyone pick a favorite? J

2) What is your favorite Holiday?

I have a love/hate relationship with Christmas, but that’s the one where I cook dinner at our daughter’s house for about thirty people and then get to watch the grandkids wind themselves into whirling dervishes, waiting for Santa to come. Seeing the holiday through the eyes of 2, 4 and 6 year olds is terrific!

3) Do you like Comedy, Drama, Romance, Foreign Language, Indie or Mystery movies?

Action adventure, when I watch them, which I rarely do. I probably only see three or four movies–all on DVD–a year. Haven’t been in a theater in years. I’d rather read a book.

4) When you get a chance to read, what books do you love to read?

I love to read, and I try and read a bit of something daily. Everything from Lori Foster to Angela Knight, from romantic comedy to dark paranormal. I’ve got shelves filled with Jayne Ann Krentz, Christine Feehan, Devyn Quinn, Anne Stuart, Anne McCaffrey, Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Alyssa Day, JR Ward…and the list goes on.

5) What bores you as a reader?

A TSTL heroine or a brutish, overbearing hero without any redeeming qualities. All sex and no story–I want a book that catches my attention and holds me, and it’s got to be well-written. I’m a real snob for good writing!

6) What is your favorite food and what is your guilty pleasure food?

I love to eat–picking a favorite is almost impossible, but I love fresh fish. We don’t get it often because we live in a little mountain town where the “fresh fish” at the local store can sometimes be a bit questionable! My guilty pleasure, without a doubt, is Taco Bell!

7) If you could go anywhere on a vacation where would you go?

Australia. I’ve always wanted to go there! Some day…

8) What is your favorite feature on a person?

Their personality.

9) Do you have a secret talent?

I’m an excellent seamstress. When our kids were little I made most of their clothes, and made all my husband’s shirts–including the western style with yokes and snaps and really nice wool shirts out of Pendleton wools. He’s quite tall and it was hard to buy shirts with sleeves long enough to fit him, so I made all of them.

10) What is your favorite time of day?

The hours between nine and eleven, when I shut down my writing for the day and sit with a good book before bed.

11) What do you think is romantic? What does the word Romance mean to you?

Romantic is a guy who rolls over in the morning and wants to kiss you even after thirty six years of marriage, when you’ve got morning breath and yucky hair. It’s a guy who vacuums the house and walks the dog to give you time to finish writing a chapter you’ve been stuck on, or who goes into book stores and hunts for your books, and gets really po’d at the book store manager if they’re not shelved face out. Romance, the real “forever after” kind, is the sort of steady love that can withstand all of the ups and downs that life throws at you. It’s what happens after the first blossom of true love. The books I write are called romances, but for me, the real romance is what comes later, when the blinders are off, so I’d have to say that romance, as a euphemism for love, is a guy you can count on no matter what.

12) What type of music gets you dancing?

Anything loud enough to hide the horrific sound of me singing along with it.

13) Who would you go out on a date with if you could?

I married him. Haven’t seen one I’d rather spend time with since!

14) You’re having a dinner party, what five people would you invite?

Besides the kids and grandkids? (sorry, I’m a really boring person!) Any five romance authors, or any five of my readers–I’d love to be surrounded by people who enjoy reading all kinds of romance and love to talk about it!

Random Questions:

1) Aliens have landed on the planet. What are the three things you would tell them that are great about this planet?

It’s filled with absolutely fascinating people and animals, it’s so big and beautiful you can’t ever see all of it, and if you head for the deserts, there’s plenty of flat territory to park the ship.

2) If you could create your own drink what would go in it and what would you call it?

I think I have–I love ice cold lemonade and gin, and I call it MINE! (but not very often…my doctor made me give up alcohol! HORRORS!)

3) You have been locked in a mall and told you can get anything you want and when they open in the morning you won’t have to pay a single cent. What stores would you hit? Better question how would you haul away all your loot?

I have no idea…I live in tank tops and jammy bottoms and only put on “grown up” clothes when I have to…so I’d probably go for a collection of flannel pants and cotton tops! (I told you I was boring…)

4) If your life were turned into a cartoon, what cartoon character would you want playing you?

Daisy Mae from Lil’ Abner…just once in my life I’d love to have that shape!

5) If you were a pirate what would your booty consist of? What would your pirate name be?

LOL! My booty would consist of those wonderful little campfire thin mints–remember those? I haven’t had any for years but I absolutely LOVE them. I’d have to keep my ship in cooler climates so they wouldn’t melt…and of course, if I could just sit and munch away on them, I’d eventually be called Corpulent Kate.

6) Okay I have to include a crazy question so here goes: He-Man, GI- Joe, The Thundercats, The Transformers and Jem are all in a battle to decide who is the best 80s cartoon, who do you think will win? I told you it was a crazy question. No one said I was sane. :-p

I have no idea–have never seen a single one of those! (You might be crazy, but I’m from a different generation! ) Whichever one is female, I imagine…we’re just smarter! (Can you tell I’ve been having a really fun “feminist” conversation on another list? My “hear me roar” muscles have been activated!)

7) You’ve been given the honor of naming a planet, what would you name it?

Chanku, what else? Like there’s a question?

8) If you were in a rock band what would the name of your band be? What would your rocker name be?

Ya lost me on this one! I have absolutely NO musical ability and can’t even FORCE my imagination to find something for this! Thanks for the attempt, though. Remember, I’m a child of the sixties–we marched to the beat of a totally different drummer…

If you’d like, you can include excerpts from your latest work. Please include the ‘Buy’ link if it is available. Thank you for participating in this interview.

Chanku Wild comes out in the Sexy Beast V anthology in late August. I’m including a link to the first chapter excerpt on my website instead of the excerpt itself, because it’s got a HUGE spoiler in it for anyone who has not yet read Wolf Tales VI, and I don’t want to ruin it for them!

The Writer:

  1. What is the best thing about being a writer? The worst?

The creation process is the best thing. The worst part is having an idea in your head and being in a situation where you can’t write it down.

  1. What is your method of breaking through writer’s block?

I take a walk or work on another story. I usually have two or three WIPs.

  1. Do you bring your own life experiences to your writing? Your own personality? If so how?

I guess all writers put something of themselves in their characters. I try to give my characters values, even if they are vampires or bounty hunters.

  1. What fuels you as an author to continue to write?

Ideas pop in my head. Telling a story and making characters come to life is a challenge.

  1. Can you tell us a bit about what book(s) you have coming out next and what you’re working on now?

Currently, I’m working on a story for Changeling Press’s multi-author sci-fi series Spaceport. My story is called Scavenger. The heroine is a collector and seller of space junk. Since nothing deteriorates in space, someone has to clean it up.

Also, I’m in the edit process for two books:  Warrior of the Light, a time-travel fantasy for Ellora’s Cave and Fire Angel, a paranormal for eRedsage.
The Person:

  1. Which season do you prefer? Spring, Summer, Fall or Winter?

I love summer.

  1. What is your favorite Holiday?

Thanksgiving.  It’s about food, family and friends. The day reminds me to be thankful for all the good things in my life.

  1. Do you like Comedy, Drama, Romance, Foreign Language, Indie or Mystery movies?

I love movies. When the script is good, the genre doesn’t matter.

  1. When you get a chance to read, what books do you love to read?

I’ve been an enthusiastic reader since I was in elementary school and I love to read a variety of styles and genres. I particularly love a suspense/mystery with a strong element of romance.

  1. What bores you as a reader?

I don’t’ like the bad guys winning or depressing stories. I don’t enjoy stories that bring you down.

  1. What is your favorite food and what is your guilty pleasure food?

I love pizza and tacos, but I try to watch my carbs so I don’t often get to enjoy them.  Chocolate is the ultimate guilty pleasure.

  1. If you could go anywhere on a vacation where would you go?

I love islands and my dream vacation is Palau, but I’ll settle for Maui.

  1. What is your favorite feature on a person?

Eyes. No matter the age or sex, a person’s eyes are fascinating.

  1. Do you have a secret talent?

Sorry, no.

  1. What is your favorite time of day?

Early morning. The world is quiet and just waking up. It’s my favorite time to write.

  1. What do you think is romantic? What does the word Romance mean to you?

A special feeling, the warmth you share with another person, whether you are in the same room or on opposite sides of the planet. Receiving an unexpected kiss or holding hands is very romantic. The expression of love doesn’t have to be grand, just thoughtful and genuine.

  1. What type of music gets you dancing?

Rock and roll.

13) Who would you go out on a date with if you could?

As a happily married woman, I’d love a diner and dancing evening with my husband. For some couples this is typical, but not for me.

14) You’re having a dinner party, what five people would you invite?

Anne Stuart, Iris Johansen, Linda Howard, Nora Roberts and Tami Hoag.
Random Questions:

  1. Aliens have landed on the planet. What are the three things you would tell them that are great about this planet?

I’d want them to appreciate the natural beauty of the land and the oceans, and respect the wildlife and encourage them to visit every continent.

  1. If you could create your own drink what would go in it and what would you call it?

I love margaritas, so I’d mix up something with tequila and lime and call it Splash.

  1. You have been locked in a mall and told you can get anything you want and when they open in the morning you won’t have to pay a single cent. What stores would you hit? Better question how would you haul away all your loot?

I’d search for one great outfit with shoes, bag and jewelry to match of course. I’d throw away my clothes and walk out wearing this one amazing outfit. By having to choose just one outfit, the experience would be really memorable.

  1. If your life were turned into a cartoon, what cartoon character would you want playing you?

Marge Simpson. I love her approach to dealing with life.

  1. If you were a pirate what would your booty consist of? What would your pirate name be?

My name would be Gale Storm and I’d go after emeralds.

  1. Okay I have to include a crazy question so here goes: He-Man, GI- Joe, The Thundercats, The Transformers and Jem are all in a battle to decide who is the best 80s cartoon, who do you think will win? I told you it was a crazy question. No one said I was sane. :-p

GI-Joe.

  1. You’ve been given the honor of naming a planet, what would you name it?

Vidar.  I like the name and have used it in one of my books.

8) If you were in a rock band what would the name of your band be? What would your rocker name be?
Halo. My rocker name would be Seraphina.  I used both these names in a story, the other members of the band were Gabriel, Michael and Rafael.
If you’d like, you can include excerpts from your latest work. Please include the ‘Buy’ link if it is available.

Thank you for participating in this interview.

KNIGHT’S EMERALD

BLURB

Astrid Radcliffe avoided her grandmother’s matchmaking attempts for months, but never anticipated the elderly woman’s determination would reach beyond the grave. If Astrid wants to keep her inheritance, the conditions of the will include a priceless emerald, a medieval spell and a handsome artist.

Varis Montgomery never expected to inherit the Knight’s Emerald. He doesn’t want the ring, but he desperately wants Astrid in his life and bed. He doesn’t believe in spells, but the conditions of the will are nothing less than magic.

EXCERPT

“You thought you were going to walk out with a fortune, didn’t you? You have no idea what you’ve conned your way into.”

“I don’t want the damn emerald,” he said, shoving his hand toward her. “You can have it. Take it, it’s yours.”

“Are you willing to cut off your finger?” Finney asked.

Varis jerked around. “What? You’re kidding, right?”

“Until the spell is broken the ring won’t come off,” Astrid said.

He snapped his head around to face her. “I don’t believe in spells.”

She glared at him. “You will.”

“I’ll have the ring cut off.”

“I wouldn’t attempt that Mr. Montgomery,” Finney said. “The legend says that horrible consequences will befall the bearer.”

Was Finney making this up? “What legend?”

Astrid waved a slender hand. “It’s a long story.”

“Maybe the ladies can chant the thing off again. Is that worth another twenty grand, Miss Radcliffe?”

Her blue eyes flashed. “If getting rid of you was so simple, I’d pay them double.”

Varis gritted his teeth. “Then I’ll find another way.”

“What not try to break the spell?” Finney asked.

“This is crazy. I’m leaving.”

“You can’t,” Finney said. “The exits have been sealed.”

Surely he hadn’t heard him correctly.

“We couldn’t take the chance you’d panic and run.”

Varis considered testing the doors, but the possibility that Astrid might laugh at him held him fast. She smirked as if she knew what he was thinking.

“What if Miss Radcliffe was to panic and run?”

Her back stiffened and her chin shot up.

“She’d lose the house,” Finney said. “The historical society would inherit.”

Okay. He’d play along with the game Morga had set up. The old girl must be enjoying herself right now. “What do we have to do to break the spell?”

Mr. Finney cleared his throat. “I think Miss Radcliffe should explain that in private, upstairs.”

The pinking of Astrid’s cheeks intrigued Varis. “Shall we, Miss Radcliffe? My apartment is quite comfortable.”

“I’m sure it is.”

Head held high, the heiress strode out of the room.

His gaze fastened on her lovely ass, Varis followed. Come hell or high water his dry spell was over. Gathered at the base of the main staircase the elderly ladies started chanting again.

Hips swaying, Astrid swept passed the chanters and headed up the stairs. The woman had fabulous legs and slender ankles worthy of a nibble. Ankles led to calves, then thighs and to what Varis suspected was the sweetest and most enchanting pussy. Once one broke through that cool exterior that is.

Lord, he wanted to fuck her!

Taking the stairs two at a time Varis caught up with Astrid on the second floor landing. The singsong voices carried up the stairwell.

When they reached the third floor, Varis asked, “Why are they chanting?”

Astrid’s lips curved into a sly, seductive smile. “Try going downstairs.”

Suspicious of the obvious challenge Varis turned. Instead of stepping down he walked into an invisible wall. Knocked off balance he stumbled backward. “What the hell?”

“They sealed off the apartment from the rest of the house.”

“That’s impossible.” Varis reached out, everywhere he touched he met resistance and a swirling mist surrounded his hand. When he pulled his hand away the mist dissolved back into the invisible barrier running from floor to ceiling. Shaking his head in disbelief he glanced at Astrid. “What’s the trick?”

“Unfortunately we are the subjects of another spell. Or in this case, the victims.”

“One wasn’t enough? How are they doing it?”

“Miss Ella is a witch.”

With that she walked away.

Varis took a deep breath and followed her into the living room.

“Witch? Miss Ella? That sweet little ole lady?”

Astrid settled onto the leather sofa and crossed her legs. Her hem slid up, revealing several inches of pale thigh. He ached to bury his face in her crotch.

She snapped her fingers. When he looked up she gave him an indulgent smile. “Want to try the stairs again?”

He threw up his hands. “What am I saying? There are no such things as witches.”

Astrid kicked off her heels and curled her fabulous legs beneath her. “Tell me you have something to drink, Mr. Montgomery.”

Liquor sounded damn good. Varis removed his jacket and walked into the kitchen. He glanced over the open counter into the living room where Astrid sat rubbing her temples.

“What’s your poison? I have gin and a bottle of champagne.”

“Since we have nothing to celebrate I’ll take a martini.”

HUNTING EVIL

http://www.changelingpress.com/product.php?&upt=book&ubid=906

The Interplanetary Ministry has hired Maxim Sange to capture Tarrand, an elusive criminal. Others have tried to capture the evil shape-shifter and all have died trying. Maxim is Vazan Shield’s best hunter and if he delivers Tarrand the bounty is huge.

Only one person knows the shape-shifter well enough to find him, Tarrand’s beautiful ex-lover, Zoe Storm. Although he doesn’t trust her, Maxim needs her. Although he shouldn’t desire her, his body doesn’t always obey.

Zoe is willing to do anything to get out of prison and destroy, even deceive a sexy vampire.

Two hunters join forces, but once they capture evil all the rules have changed.

Excerpt

Anticipating the debilitating stun of the force field, Zoe sucked in a breath and gritted her teeth. Fire raced through her feet, up her legs, screamed along her skin to her shoulders.

Fuck!

The shield separating her from the parole board sank silently into the floor. Dressed in official white tunics bearing the prison’s insignia, three men sat on a dais meant to intimidate the inmate appearing before them. Pain shot through Zoe’s chest and a shriek filled her throat, but the anticipatory grin on one of the bureaucrat’s face as the field stabilized forced her to swallow and bear the agony in silence.

She’d been a model prisoner, so why had they dragged her out of her bunk before her morning meal?

A slight movement to her right caught Zoe’s attention. To her surprise, a man stood in the shadows. She couldn’t see his face, but he was tall. Back straight, shoulders squared and feet slightly apart he had the bearing of a man used to discipline.

The bureaucrat in the middle spoke in Arano, the intergalactic commercial and diplomatic language. “Prisoner Zoe Storm. This board is determining your eligibility for parole.”

Her breath hitched. She’d been given a life sentence without the privilege of parole so the cautious why of it mingled with exhilaration of possible liberation.

“You have not completed the term of your punishment, but the Interplanetary Ministry, in its benevolence, has taken extenuating circumstances under consideration.”

Benevolence my ass! What’s the catch?

“An opportunity has arisen for you to serve your government.”

Depending on the inmate’s skills, serving the Ministry meant anything from killing an enemy to fucking a senior official. Zoe could taste freedom, but what was the price? She wanted to ask, but prisoners were allowed to speak only when directly addressed. Violating the rules resulted in severe pain.

“Are you willing to serve your government in any capacity?”

What could they possibly ask that she hadn’t already done? Not much. “I am.”

“The Interplanetary Ministry will grant parole on the condition that you are to be

remanded into the custody of a contracted member of Vazan Shield.”

Her gaze cut to the shadowed figure. The vampire planet of Vazan wasn’t part of the Interplanetary Ministry, but the government often contracted the services of Vazan Shield, the premier security corporation in the galaxy. Why would a vampire want her?

Why didn’t he show his face?

“Prisoner Storm, are you willing to accept this condition?” Even a blood drinker was preferable to a life sentence. “I am.” “Upon completion of the mission, you’ll be granted a pardon. Do you understand?”

For a chance at a pardon, she’d bite the vampire and suck his blood. “I do.”

“Agent Sange, do you wish to question the prisoner?” Maxim Sange? The reason for her unexpected parole slammed into Zoe. The famous bounty hunter stepped out of the shadows and approached her. He was a big fucker and dressed like a mercenary in black trousers, a long sleeved dark gray shirt, black vest and heavy boots.

“You recognize my name?”

His eyes were dark blue, the piercing eyes of a predator. His face was rough-hewn and he wore his straight dark brown hair pulled back and tied at the nape. Handsome, he wasn’t, but his rugged features were striking. By reputation Sange was dangerous. In person he had raw sex appeal. If she had to be in someone’s custody it might as well be Sange. “I do.”

“Then you know I’m hunting Tarrand?”

“I know you’re hunting evil.”

Author Interview

Please give us a brief bio, your website, my space page and blog links.

Tilly Greene was born into the easy folds of a sleepy beach town and embraces the laid back mindset she grew up with. Life took a turn one day while sitting in the back of the school bus with her friends: she was introduced to the joys of romance novels and has never looked back. Every day she looks forward to writing about women who are independent and confident, the men who love them, and their twisting passionate path to a happy-ever-after ending.

The author writes erotica and erotic romances in a variety of genres and enjoys hearing from readers.

The Writer:

1) What is the best thing about being a writer? The worst?

There are many great bits about being an author but one in particular is on my mind because it just happened to me. I was sitting behind a small table with a stack of my book Zandia in front of me in a room of over 200 authors. Scary! After the doors opened and people started filing through I was having a blast. Talking to this person, signing a book for another, it was all good. Then the day took a step further up the rungs when a woman walked by and smiled. She paused in front of me and pointed to my book. “That is a great read!” She turned to her friend and said it again before looking back at me, and without a smile on her face, asked: “When is the next one coming out?” Yup, that’s one of the best parts of being an author.

As for the worst, well, that has to be time. There simply isn’t enough time to get everything done when I want to.

2) What is your method of breaking through writer’s block?

If a brick wall comes up and blocks the way to my characters and plot then I flex my creative muscles and dabble in other areas to help dismantle the obstruction. One thing I’ll do is open the story and either reread what I’ve put down so far and play around with it, see if any bricks will break loose. Another way to get back in to the groove is put the backside in the chair and write. There no pressure to keep anything, simply get the fingers moving to help ease me back into the story. If none of that works then I’ll work on my website or any of the other sites I tinker in, an article for someone or making up promotional items. There’s always something to do.

3) Do you bring your own life experiences to your writing? Your own personality? If so how?

There is at least one very tangible part of my life that does frequently show up in my writing. I’m lucky enough to do quite a bit of travel and whether I’m revisiting someplace or enjoying my first visit, I love to share some of what I’ve seen or done. A good example of this would be “Hot Couture”, a collection of my ‘A Passion for Fashion’ stories. Thus far there are three romances, each with a woman who has a hand somewhere in the world of fashion, each being offered a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and they all take place in a different fashion capital. New York City, Paris and London all make an appearance and have some part of my experience inside them.

4) What fuels you as an author to continue to write?

There are so many stories flittering through my mind that I want to share with readers.

5) Can you tell us a bit about what book(s) you have coming out next and what you’re working on now?

Coming out next for me is “In Heat”. This is my shape-shifter from Scotland and I simply adore the hero. Hamish Buchanan has secrets, serious secrets. He’s a successful man who takes care of his own and then he sees Grace Strachan and knows his life will never be the same again. After a few mistakes are made he woos her to his side. Now that he has her, he wants to keep her, problem is he can only do this if he tells her everything and he fears this will be the one thing that drives her away from him. “In Heat” takes the reader from London to the Highlands, into a charity ball to a Chinese restaurant and more through the eyes of an award winning milliner and a successful historical property developer.

Now, as for what I’m working on, it just so happens to be another shape-shifter tale, a trilogy actually. The three Ivanovich brothers are Russian who in their youth moved to America. They have a good if not unusual life in New York City. When their times comes, they each must accept who they are and what the future holds for them before the women they love will respond to their call and come.

The Person:

1) Which season do you prefer? Spring, Summer, Fall or Winter?

Summer. To me it means sitting on the beach, listening to the waves crash and digging my toes into the warm sand. But then again, maybe it’s Winter because I love to stay indoors and watch it snowing while sipping on hot chocolate. Or may it’s Spri…okay, I obviously can’t decide on just one.

2) What is your favorite Holiday?

I’m easy, I enjoy them all. It’s being with family and friends that makes it spectacular.

3) Do you like Comedy, Drama, Romance, Foreign Language, Indie or Mystery movies?

Oh man, again my indecisive side is showing…I have a favorite flick in all of them! Now horror, I’m a screamer so those I tend to stay clear of unless the cutie drags me out to one.

4) When you get a chance to read, what books do you love to read?

Okay, first choice is a new one from a favorite author or something totally new and fresh [uh-hum, A Fling at Vampiroplis, uh-hum].

5) What bores you as a reader?

Hmmm, same old same old I guess. I like it when an author steps out of their comfort zone and goes where they’ve never gone before.

6) What is your favorite food and what is your guilty pleasure food?

Is chocolate food? If it is, then chocolate for both, if not then I love tacos and my guilty pleasure would be a juicy cheeseburger.

7) If you could go anywhere on a vacation where would you go?

The cutie and I talk about this all the time…if we could go anywhere in the world where would we go. I couldn’t name one place over any other but I’m a big beach person. Oh, and I don’t want to have to go and do anything…just sit there and enjoy what nature has to offer.

8) What is your favorite feature on a person?

The eyes. They come in so many shapes, sizes and colors, wow, and then there’s them being windows into a person’s soul, yes, it’s definitely the eyes.

9) Do you have a secret talent?

Well, it certainly isn’t cooking. I guess it’s my ability to remember useless information.

10) What is your favorite time of day?

Sunset. I love to see a beautiful bright and vibrant sunset. It makes me think the end is just a new beginning.

11) What do you think is romantic? What does the word Romance mean to you?

Romance to me is so many things. There’s nothing simple about it other than it’s all about honest feelings.

12) What type of music gets you dancing?

HA! I don’t have any rhythm what so ever darlin’, nor can I sing. The closest I come to dancing is “Santa Baby” by Eartha Kitt. She has a way of tickling my inner rhythm chick.

13) Who would you go out on a date with if you could?

The cutie J

14) You’re having a dinner party, what five people would you invite?

Homer, I have many questions for this man and Cleopatra as well. Michelangelo and Anne Frank would both be interesting guests. To round off this fine grouping I think I’d best have Julia Child…the woman could cook!

Random Questions:

1) Aliens have landed on the planet. What are the three things you would tell them that are great about this planet?

Books, The People and the Surroundings.

2) If you could create your own drink what would go in it and what would you call it?

It’s called the Tasty Tipple is perfect for a cold winter’s night. I’m not in to quantity so it would be in a small glass, with melted dark chocolate, poured over a couple of chocolate kisses sitting on the bottom and a generous splash of peppermint liquor. Mmmm.

3) You have been locked in a mall and told you can get anything you want and when they open in the morning you won’t have to pay a single cent. What stores would you hit? Better question how would you haul away all your loot?

I’d think small and put on all the jewelry I could manage from Tiffany’s J What? I have ten fingers and ten toes, long arms, strong earlobes and then there’s my neck. I wouldn’t mind this once wearing a mixture of gold, silver and platinum. Of course I’d look really stupid but l love sparklers enough to put up with the shame!

4) If your life were turned into a cartoon, what cartoon character would you want playing you?

I thought of Jessica Rabbit, that simply isn’t me…the heels and hairdo would bug me to no end. Let me see, maybe Betty Rubble…I’m sure she has some serious kick ass moves hidden inside her pretty and polite exterior.

5) If you were a pirate what would your booty consist of? What would your pirate name be?

Hello Matey, I’m Sugar Fingers, those who travel across the seas fear seeing my pink skull and cross bones flag bearing down on them. They know if anything happens to my booty of sugar no one will survive my wrath…unless I share J.

6) Okay I have to include a crazy question so here goes: He-Man, GI- Joe, The Thundercats, The Transformers and Jem are all in a battle to decide who is the best 80s cartoon, who do you think will win? I told you it was a crazy question. No one said I was sane. :-p

GI-Joe…he could take anyone down in less time than it takes him to smile or flex a muscle.

7) You’ve been given the honor of naming a planet, what would you name it?

Okay, I’m thinking of a word, not your traditional planet type name, but one that says exactly what it is: Pulire – clean in Italian.

8) If you were in a rock band what would the name of your band be? What would your rocker name be?

The band would be called The Off Keys and I’m the lead singer, Tone Deaf.

OohRah! - Blurb

What happens when communication breaks down between the home front and the battlefield?

Tasha Ruskya has everything she could possibly want.  Life is good, no, great!  She’s worked hard to be independent and has finally found her soul mate.  The only drawback is that his job is very dangerous, the life threatening kind.  Is she prepared to handle all the worry that comes with him?

Warrant Officer Dale Smythe loves being a Marine.  The Corps is his world.  His job is a challenge, physically and mentally, and requires him to be at the top of his game.  Then, on the day he decided to make changes in his personal life, he met the woman who manages to keep his humanity connected.  But, will he be able to handle it when he must leave for war?

War is tough, for everyone involved, but there are also many very rewarding aspects - like the reunion.

OohRah! - Scorching Excerpt

Stepping back, he wrapped his arm around her shoulder and they walked back home.  There were many stops along the way for kisses and more heavy petting.  With only a couple of blocks from her home they came close to being arrested for indecent exposure.

On the dark sidewalk, up against a palm tree, she had his jeans unbuttoned and was giving him a most enthusiastic blow job.

“Shit Tash!”

“Mmmm.”  He felt the hum of pleasure down to his toes and wasn’t sure he could hold out much longer.  With his fingers buried in her hair, he tried to keep her still, only she kept moving her mouth up and down, encouraging his cum to build in his balls until he thought he’d explode on the next stroke.  Then a local policeman chose that exact moment to drive up and pull to a stop at the curb.

“Hey!  What’s going on over there?”

Thankfully the man didn’t shine his light on them or get out of his car, just shouted loud enough to startle them both out of their skin.

“Sir, we’re leaving.”

As Tash used his body to stand, he worked on putting his fly back in order.

“You a Marine?”

“Yes sir.”  Oh fuck, it was an easy guess with Pendleton not too far away.  This was all he needed, to get in trouble the night before leaving.  This could seriously screw up his life.  While many ex-military men became policemen when they returned to a civilian’s life, just as many had a serious hard-on to see them in trouble.

“Take it inside, leatherneck.  Stay safe,” and he pulled away.  Watching the cruiser’s lights disappear, he breathed a sigh of relief.  With his lust once again under control, he looked down at his woman and realized how far she turned his mind around.  He was the man and should always be careful of her.  How could he have come so close to putting her in a difficult position?

“I’m sorry sweetheart.”  He picked her up and carried her the rest of the way.  “I should’ve been more in command of what we were doing.”

“Hmmm, I quite like breaking that control you enjoy so much.”

“And you do it very well, maybe too good.”

They made it to her place without any more incidents, but not beyond the front door before they were pulling each other’s clothes off.

The rest of the night was happily spent with some part of his body inside hers.  There’d been no sleep for either of them. There was plenty of time for that later.  Instead, the dark hours were filled with pleasure and whispered promises.  It had been exactly how he’d wanted to be sent off.

Hot Couture - Blurb

When fashion and passion collide, love ignites and Haute Couture becomes Hot Couture.

The Leather Bride

New York City during fashion week is one wild party after another. This year’s hot moment happens when one designer’s muse makes a unique walk down the runway. Once she meets up with her man, the show moves beyond the clothes and into matters of the heart.

Taming Marie Antoinette

A graduate student working on her final project finds more than success behind the scenes of a historical exhibition on Haute Couture. At Paris’s famed Depravity Dance, she finds herself pleasantly captured by two men who possess the ability to fulfill her every desire.

The Gilded Cage

One night in London, a jeweler has an experience that changes her life. The most important meeting of her professional career is scheduled and she seeks an unusual outlet for her tension. Expectations are cast aside as she surrenders all and more to the man who completes her.

Between the covers of Hot Couture are three stories, each set in a different fashion capital.  The women are offered an extraordinary opportunity.  They gladly accept and the outcome is more than they envisioned.  After the excitement is over, their lives are different, mainly because of their lovers’ actions.

Hot Couture – Scorching Snippet from The Leather Bride

“Oh, baby girl, you look so sexy.  Give me your safe word.  Let me hear you say the word so I know you remember it.”

“I won’t need it.”

“Humor me.”

“It’s frost, but I won’t need it.”

“Promise me you’ll use it if you’re scared, hurt by anything we–”

“Stop! Come here and love me.”

Rick sat beside her on the bed.  His cock pulsed with need to bury itself inside her tight grasp.  Leaning over, he pressed his lips against hers, testing the resiliency of her soft plump folds.  Mimi St. John meant the world to him.  When he hadn’t been looking, he’d found the one woman who completed him.  He’d do anything in his power to make sure her life was peaceful and full of love and joy.

It was only a year ago, he’d walked into a gallery for an opening and, with one look, his entire being turned upside down and inside out.  He was left uncomfortably open before her and oddly didn’t question the discovery.

Taking her bottom lip between his teeth, he looked into her green eyes and tugged, before letting the fold go.

“Do you remember the night we met?”

“Of course.  I was attending the opening for an up-and-coming artist who the critics were touting had unbelievable talent, ability, and finesse.  She was everything they said and more.  Her carved stone appeared so fluid-like.  You were too handsome and so very sure of yourself.  Walking up and introducing yourself in your deep sexy voice, then offering me a glass of champagne to draw my attention away from your other flaws.  No doubt from the minute you saw me, you’d quickly determined I would be an easy catch for a stud like you, and I was.  Now will you fuck me?”

“Hmmm, so demanding and eager. You know how much I love that about you.  So much so, I’ll ignore the flaws bit.”  He could tell she was anxious; her body fairly vibrated with need.  There was no rush this evening, he wanted to enjoy every inch of her body.

“How about if I beg?  Will you take me then?”

“Absolutely, just not yet.”

“Ohhh!”

Hot Couture – Scorching Snippet from Taming Marie Antoinette

Within a few steps of their goal, she turned around but didn’t walk away. This view had him reaching down to grab hold of his hardened cock, readjusting it for comfort as they continued making their way to her side. Starting at her waist a swath of gold satin, gathered like a bustle and elegantly trailed down and across the floor behind her. The brothers didn’t rush but neither did they stop to talk with anyone, nothing would deter them from their objective.

They stepped up beside her, one on each side, and simultaneously used a hand to cup an ass cheek. The twins manipulated the globes, savoring the soft flesh as well as its resiliency.

“My, my, what a lovely ass you have here, my Queen. Silky and malleable, perfect.”

Without jumping or moving away, she stood between the two men and let them fondle the body part in question. Before answering their compliment, she looked both right and left. Sharp and intense bright blue eyes focused on each of them, assuredly taking their measure. James felt his cock jump in his pants.

“Thank you, it’s mine, and I’m quite attached to it.” James was surprised. In their haste, they’d made a mistake and spoke in English, but it seemed that was okay because she sounded American.

“Hmmm, do you ever share it with others?” While neither had released their hold on her delectable ass, Thorn continued to make their play to claim her for the evening.

For a long moment she was quiet, checking them both out again. They didn’t make even the smallest of moves, letting her make up her own mind to their request.

“Yes, with the right person…or persons.”

James released the breath he’d been holding and thanked every deity for opening this door to heaven. Something about this woman was calling out to him, and without so much as putting his dick inside her. When she looked at him, speaking through lovely plump pink folds and beautiful ice blue eyes staring intelligently back at him, he felt his dick eagerly throb for entrance. As she turned to look at Thorn, he looked at his brother and saw he felt the connection, too, although there’d been little doubt he would. If one felt something, then the other did as well.

“Are we acceptable, because we’d like to share you between us this evening.” James blinked at his brother. What was he doing, ignoring the wooing and gentling stage and instead jumping right into the fucking.

“Gentlemen, may I suggest we take this upstairs?”

Hot Couture – Scorching Snippet from The Gilded Cage

Cassandra moaned. The rubber dulled the metal balls decorating his dick, although he was sure she’d still be able feel them glide along her walls. Giving her a moment to adjust to his size, he reached around her hip to make sure her clit was uncovered and pushed up against the vault.

When this was done, he put his hands on her hips and held her so she didn’t move even the slightest bit and she had to take what he gave her. Max pulled free of her vice-like grip and pushed in again through the clenching muscles. He repeatedly plowed through her hot, clenching pussy, driving them both closer to the peak. She was close to coming, he could feel it in her shaking legs. Her groans were becoming higher pitched, and her slit gripped him firmly, as if afraid she’d never feel a cock again.

She would and did, again and again.

“Here you go, is this what you want?” He fucked her slowly, so they could both experience the pleasure to the fullest. Although he found it difficult, she was so tight and lush, he wanted to come and then go another round with her.

“Yes!”

“Yes?” It was difficult to keep his head on straight while fucking her. She’d already broken the rules and he’d punished her, but he would be more than happy to discipline her some more. However, in the back of his mind was the desire to keep pushing his dick inside her until they both came.

“Sir! Oh yes, yes!”

Because he couldn’t help himself any longer, he started fucking faster, adding more power to his strokes, until he was hammering in and out of her tight hold. Their bodies slapped against each other, sticking together with the sweat their passion created. His grip tightened on her hips and he felt her orgasm break around him. The tight vortex threatened to pull him into her body. He struggled, but managed to pull his cock out a bit before he slammed back in, thrusting through the clenching rings of her cunt.

Life on the ranch is hard work, surviving in the competitive industry is no easy task, however, there is more than farming and herding going on out there.  Kinky games are being played out in barns across the nation, enter and discover exactly how interesting times are getting out in the Big Sky country.

Ride ‘em - SCORCHING Excerpt

Stepping hard on the front steps to help knock some of the dirt off his boots, he made his way up to the front porch. Once in the shade, Court took his hat off and hit it against his thigh, allowing dust to fly off the beige felt.

All morning he’d been working with everyone else to prepare and load this first set of horses they’d sold. A ranch down in Texas purchased an even dozen after seeing how well the quarter horses performed on the Big W ranch.

Yup, today had been busy, rewarding as well. He’d worked hard on making the Lucky Double D a success and it was, but it truly felt like it today when those horses were loaded and driven away.

Running a hand through his sweaty hair, he opened the front door. No matter how much was going on during his day, there was always time to clean up and run into town to grab a bite to eat with his lady. He liked watching her at work, especially knowing she was wearing—

With his hand still holding on to the knob, the door was pulled from his hand. Startled, Court blinked twice, taking in the beauty meeting him at his front door.

“Hi there, cowboy. Want to celebrate?”

“I’m dirty, sweaty and smell like horses.”

“Better and better.”

Sunflower Forever Free stood in his foyer, naked except for a pair of tight, thigh-high, black leather boots and his mark.

They were perfect for each other. Their minds seemed to work along the same path, especially when it came to fucking. He was pleased he didn’t have to drive into town to try and coax her into a quickie.

“On your hands and knees, flower.”

Author Interview

Please give us a brief bio, your website, my space page and blog links.

Award-winning author Devyn Quinn lives amid the scenic Southwest Texas plains. A huge fan of dark gothic literature, Devyn is a recent Romantic Times Nominee and CAPA Award winner. Writing with a style that has depth, fire, and fiendish imagination, Devyn made her New York debut with FLESH AND THE DEVIL, then followed it up with the release of SINS OF THE FLESH in Oct 07–the first book in her Kith & Kynn vampire series. She and is currently working on her next Goth-erotic title. Visit Devyn online at www.devynquinn.com or www.myspace.com/devynquinn for the latest details on her books and upcoming announcements.

The Writer:

What is the best thing about being a writer? The worst?

Devyn Quinn: The best thing about being a writer is that I can set my own hours and work schedule. Working at home is a bonus.

The worst thing is pitching a story to your editor, having it accepted and then having the plot fall through. Fortunately I have an editor who understands the creative process.

What is your method of breaking through writer’s block?

Devyn Quinn: I simply don’t write until I feel ready to sit down and commit something to paper. Sometimes you just need not to think about writing and wait for the story to emerge. This can be a bit tricky with deadlines, however something always presents itself at the last possible moment.

Do you bring your own life experiences to your writing? Your own personality? If so how?

Devyn Quinn: Yes, I use of lot of my life experiences in my writing. There’s almost no way not to when it comes to character development. A lot of my own personality also goes into my books, always disguised as characters, LOL. I have a lot of alter-egos running around on the printed page.

What fuels you as an author to continue to write?

Devyn Quinn: It must be insanity. No sane person would want to torture themselves in such a way.

Can you tell us a bit about what book(s) you have coming out next and what you’re working on now?

Devyn Quinn: I just finished Personal Possessions, a paranormal BDSM novella for the Dangerous Ties (title tentative) Anthology that I’ll be leading in April 09 with authors Jodi Lynn Copeland and Anya Howard. I’ll be working on the novella for the Sexy Beast 6 anthology next, titled Heart of the Wildcat, a shifter story for this popular anthology series headed by Kate Douglas.

In releases, I’ve just had Eros Island hit bookstores. This is a multi author anthology with Lucinda Betts and the late Dawn Thompson. I also have another antho coming out in May 09, Trio, which addresses the theme of threesomes.

On the single title front, Sins of the Night, my second Kith and Kynn book will be out in late March 08, and Embracing Midnight will be out in Nov 08. Embracing Midnight is the first of a new series that introduces a new vampire-shifter species called the Niviane Idesha. I am excited about having so many titles release in 2008. It’s an author’s dream come true.

The Person:

Which season do you prefer? Spring, Summer, Fall or Winter?

Devyn Quinn: I prefer Summer, as I hate paying my propane bill in the winter.

What is your favorite Holiday?

Devyn Quinn: I don’t do holidays at all.

Do you like Comedy, Drama, Romance, Foreign Language, Indie or Mystery movies?

Devyn Quinn: I actually prefer Action movies, then Drama.

When you get a chance to read, what books do you love to read?

Devyn Quinn: I read mainly non-fiction, preferring to remain in Biography or history. I write fiction, so I read very little of it. When I do, I read Kate Dougals’ Wolf Tales or something by Morgan Hawke.

What bores you as a reader?

Devyn Quinn: Endless pages of description. Give me a brief idea of what something looks like. Don’t spend pages on it!

What is your favorite food and what is your guilty pleasure food?

Devyn Quinn: My favorite food is a box of crackers. I can eat Triscuits all day. Guilty Pleasure, which I can not have often, is potato chips.

If you could go anywhere on a vacation where would you go?

Devyn Quinn: Ireland.

What is your favorite feature on a person?

Devyn Quinn: I like nice hair.

Do you have a secret talent?

Devyn Quinn: I haven’t no talent whatsoever. It’s pathetic!

What is your favorite time of day?

Devyn Quinn: Sundown and late evenings.

What do you think is romantic? What does the word Romance mean to you?

Devyn Quinn: Being a long time single, I don’t think about romance at all, except maybe for my characters, LOL. I simply am not a romantic person.

What type of music gets you dancing?

Devyn Quinn: I don’t dance, but I like modern bubblegum pop!

Who would you go out on a date with if you could?

Devyn Quinn: I would like to go out with Johnny Depp and pitch my gothic books as a movie, LOL. I’ve always imagined he should play the assassin of the series!

You’re having a dinner party, what five people would you invite?

Devyn Quinn: Geez. I don’t do things like that at all! I wouldn’t have the slightest clue of how to go about that or who I’d invite, LOL

Random Questions:

Aliens have landed on the planet. What are the three things you would tell them that are great about this planet?

Devyn Quinn: I’d recommend they run fast and run far.

If you could create your own drink what would go in it and what would you call it?

Devyn Quinn: I’d like a drink made with Bailey’s Irish Cream. Have no idea what I’d call it, but it would sure taste good!

You have been locked in a mall and told you can get anything you want and when they open in the morning you won’t have to pay a single cent. What stores would you hit? Better question how would you haul away all your loot?

Devyn Quinn: I’d hit the electronics store and stock up on all the toys I can’t afford!

If your life were turned into a cartoon, what cartoon character would you want playing you?

Devyn Quinn: It’d have to be Wyle E Coyote.

If you were a pirate what would your booty consist of? What would your pirate name be?

Devyn Quinn: I must be the only person who didn’t get in on the pirate kick. Pirates don’t really do a whole lot for me.

Okay I have to include a crazy question so here goes: He-Man, GI- Joe, The Thundercats, The Transformers and Jem are all in a battle to decide who is the best 80s cartoon, who do you think will win? I told you it was a crazy question. No one said I was sane. :-p

Devyn Quinn: I really don’t know those cartoon characters at all!

You’ve been given the honor of naming a planet, what would you name it?

Devyn Quinn: New Hope

If you were in a rock band what would the name of your band be? What would your rocker name be?

Devyn Quinn: I suppose I don’t know as I never wanted to be in a rock band!

If you’d like, you can include excerpts from your latest work. Please include the ‘Buy’ link if it is available. Thank you for participating in this interview.

Prologue

Warwickshire, England - 1906

Adrien Roth wasn’t sure what awakened him. Perhaps it was the sinking of the sun, the gradual darkening of the chamber already shrouded in shadows by heavy velvet drapes drawn across the windows.

Or perhaps it was dread rousing him from his restless sleep, causing him to twist his wrists against the ropes binding them to the headboard. He cursed the unyielding restraints. No matter how much he writhed, he simply could not free his arms. The skin under the ropes was badly chafed and raw. Struggling only delivered more pain. He ignored it, his hands balling into tight fists to fight the ropes anew.

Helplessness consumed him. A wild-voiced cry echoed through his head.

They’re coming…

His eyes slipped shut. Silence hung, the lack of sound even more disturbing than a scream, or the sound of ominous footfalls on the hardwood floors. His heart hammered in his chest, beating against his ribs with a fury threatening to steal his breath away. He gasped, running his parched tongue over dry, cracked lips.

Opening his eyes, he focused on the dim light behind the drapes as though it were a beacon, the only source of illumination in the world. He silently prayed to God without ceasing. Without allowing himself to think of what was to come, or of how it would end, he vehemently cursed the source of his misery. When more thoughts of torture invaded his mind, his gaze clouded over and his lower jaw trembled. The wait was excruciating.

Minutes dragged like hours. All hope faded with the last precious rays of day. As the wing of night spread over the land, misery and horror was given fresh birth. Fear became more intense.

He did not hear them, but felt them, the way one would become aware of a spider crawling across one’s skin.

His eyes widened when the door swung open and two figures, a man and a woman, entered silently. He knew them both. The man was Devon, Lord Carnavorn, seventh Earl of Hammerston. Tall, well over six feet, his features were strong and commanding; piercing gray eyes, sensual but cruel mouth, tousled brown hair. The outfit of dove gray trousers, white silk shirt and silk vest of a lighter gray well fitted his muscular frame.

The woman… Oh, blessed virgin and tainted whore. She was his angel and his demon, savior and tormentor; appropriately named, for she would consent to lie beneath no man.

Lilith.

Her name was a whisper on the lips of pious men, the screech of a night owl, the shimmering frost on the accursed north wind. In one slender hand she carried a gold-gilt candelabrum. The flame guttered as she walked. She was a lovely creature to behold through the wavering light. Clad in a white silk dressing gown, the sheer material whispered around her legs. Open at the neck, a glimpse of her sumptuous breasts hinted of untold delights. Black hair cascaded around her shoulders, falling nearly to her waist. Silver-flecked crystal blue eyes, a pert nose and a pouting little bow of a mouth decorated her oval face. Beyond her beauty was a strange hardness–a hatred lingering in the depths of her eyes and the cruel set of her mouth.

Devon Carnavorn’s probing stare raked Adrien’s naked form. “I hope you’re ready for the coming evening. We have something special in store for you this night.” His accented voice was smooth, untroubled, as if all his guests were usually trussed up like a Christmas turkey ready for roasting.

Adrien gave a final feeble tug, wishing the ties would magically dissolve. There was, however, no hope of rescue and he knew it.

He was afraid, but not for his life. Life was temporary, something he’d been prepared from childhood to sacrifice in the name of the hunt for the creatures inhabiting the night, stalking the weaker human prey. Life was fleeting, easier lost than kept. But what of his immortal soul? No amount of preparation or prayer could sustain a man when eternal damnation beckoned. All he had left was his faith in God and the church. Through the days, he’d prayed when conscious, dreamt that he prayed when unconscious, his time spent in restless sleep refusing to let him find solace or peace.

The beginning of a prayer slipped from his lips. “Our father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,” he said, attempting to wrap himself in the words as if they were a shield. “Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven–”

Carnavorn angrily recoiled from the words. A look of scorn colored his face. “Your prayers will not be Devyn Quinned! Your God does not exist here!” Hands fisted in anger, the venom in his voice temporarily silenced Adrien. Recovering his composure, Carnavorn continued in a smoother tone. “I know the old prayers as well as you do. They are meaningless. Nothing.”

“You mock the words of my faith, demon!” Adrien spat back.

Dark brows dropped into a frown. “They say the devil can quote scripture for his own purposes,” Carnavorn countered icily. “That itself is true enough. I certainly have one that perfectly fits our, ah, situation. Something you may recognize, about an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.”

A shiver clawed its way up Adrien’s spine. His guts turned to liquid. “If you’re going to kill me, do it. I’ve no fear of death.” How many days had he been held captive? He wasn’t sure. He only knew that he was growing weaker, resistance fading each and every time the demonic pair descended.

Carnavorn laughed, mouth curling up in a half-smile of disdain. “Kill you? Death is too good for you, Amhais. As the shadow-stalkers have hunted us, so must we of the Kynn return the favor.” He turned to the woman. “Are you ready, my dear?”

An eager smile crossed Lilith’s red lips, showing a flash of white teeth. “I have a special surprise for you.” Her voice was a combination of warm honey on sharp gravel, throaty and sensuous. She set the candelabra aside.

Adrien shook his head. Hunger, exhaustion and his weakening body were all making a play on his senses. The faces of those he’d slain drifted to the front of his mind. Their corpses rose to grasp at his legs, tug him down into the depths of an unhallowed grave.

He wanted to cry out, deny this evil in the name of all that was holy. Instead, only feeble words escaped his lips. “No…please…not again…” To beg was demeaning, but he had no more to give.

Carnavorn stepped behind Lilith. Hands on her slender hips, he maneuvered her to the bed. Reaching in front of her, he untied the sash of her gown and slid it off her shoulders. Underneath, she was completely naked. Her figure was well arranged; full breasts, slender waist, flat belly and legs that went on endlessly. Beautiful and feminine, hers was a body made to entice, tease and please. A thin silver chain hung around her neck; a pendant nestled in the hollow between her breasts. Of Celtic origins, the design was that of a circle interwoven with three sharp-edged eyelets that formed a triangle around the circle.

Carnavorn’s hands lifted, his fingertips grazing her temples. “Beautiful, is she not?” His fingers continued their trek, tracing the contours of her high cheekbones, the lines of her jaw, down her neck to the hollow of her throat. Eyelids lowering, she tipped her head to one side.

“We have a gift to share with you, Adrien.” Carnavorn’s head dipped, nuzzling the soft curve of Lilith’s neck. His hands found her breasts, cupping their weight. She made a soft sound; half gasp, half moan.

“I don’t want your damnation.” His sputtered words were strained.

Devon Carnavorn’s gray eyes narrowed, hard and flinty. “I don’t recall that you were given a choice. Did you show Ariel any mercy when you put that stake through her heart? She was everything to me and you took her away with the darkness of your hate and prejudice against our kind. There are truly more things in heaven and on earth than humankind will ever be able to understand. Your mind is too small to comprehend that. But your eyes will be opened, and then you shall see all.”

Adrien fought his bonds. “I sent her back to the devil that spawned her. Just as I will send you to hell right after her if I ever have that chance!”

Carnavorn only laughed. His hands found and teased Lilith’s nipples, giving them renewed erectness. “I won’t let you go, Adrien. You’re going to pay for what you did, not once, but again and again and again. You’ve only gotten a glimpse of what we really are.”

He ran his palms over Lilith’s hips, then her belly. A low moan escaped her throat. She hovered in a state of sexual arousal, the air around her scented from the sizzling heat of raw desire. His hand found the tender slit between her legs, that velvet treasure every woman possessed. Delving past the soft curls of her Venus mound, he stroked her clit.

Carnavorn dipped one finger inside her depths. He brought it to Lilith’s mouth, tracing her lips with honeyed nectar. Her moist tongue snaked out to savor her juices. “You want to taste her.” He grinned, feral and unpleasant. “Admit you are as weak as the next man and that lust is ablaze in your heart.”

“No–”

Lilith looked at him from under a fall of long lashes. “But it is, my darling.” Her gaze traced his nude body, settling on his flaccid penis. “How well I know.” Smiling, she began to finger her silver charm. The edges of the triangle were sharpened, and could slide through flesh like a razor. The charm had meted out a lot of pain, and would deliver still more. The agony itself was not nearly as great as the apprehension of pain to be inflicted. “You belong to me now, beloved.”

Adrien winced, his eyes drifting downward. A series of cuts crisscrossed his chest and abdomen, his skin red and swollen, part of the bondage and bloodletting ritual his captors had inflicted.

Devon gave her a gentle push. “Take him.”

Lilith flicked her hair off her shoulders and stretched out on the bed. The feather mattress was thick and soft, covered with a warm down comforter.

By day, Adrien was chained in a damp, windowless cellar. When night neared its fall, two silent male servants would bring him to her bedchamber. He was too weak to protest, try to fight his way to freedom. Through his long captivity he’d been given no food, and only very little water.

Propping herself on an elbow, Lilith trailed her palm over his chest, tracing his dusky male nipples. Her nails were long and sharp. Her touch was chilly, as if no blood flowed through her veins. Her skin had a strange opalescent opaqueness, reminding him more of stone than of living flesh.

Sexual hunger exuded from her like an exotic perfume. Lust pummeled in a series of gut wrenching kicks. Adrien caught a quick breath. When she was so close, every breath he took sent his need soaring. He ached to touch her.

Lilith’s hand moved to one of the small cuts marring his abdomen. Her fingers felt like silk against his skin. “Don’t you like what I do to you?” The wounds were deep and wide enough to draw blood, but do no serious damage. They seemed to mark him as hers and hers alone. Dipping her head, she circled one of his nipples with her liquid-silver tongue, flicking the little nub until it grew as hard as a bead. Her breath caressed his chilled skin as her searching hand rubbed over his bare chest in sensuous circles.

Adrien closed his eyes, trying to fight her alluring touch. A growl rumbled deep in his throat, but he was barely aware of it. “Please–don’t–” His voice was hoarse, wavering with desperation. As if to betray his words, sweet inertia washed over him.

Devon sneered. “Words Ariel said. Words your men ignored.”

Lilith jerked off her necklace, snapping the thin chain. “Tonight, I will close those mortal eyes of yours.” She drew the sharp edge of the charm across his skin, just below his navel. Crimson welled to the surface, and her head dipped. She soothed away the brief sting with her tongue, licking hungrily. Low snarls escaped from her throat as she drank, the way an animal would growl when its food was in danger of being snatched. She made two more cuts, going lower with each, licking and suckling his skin.

Adrien shivered when she wrapped her fingers around his growing erection. His thick, jutting cock pulsed, alive under her touch. A drop of semen leaked from its head, glistening in the candlelight. What she was doing appalled him. It was against his will, but it also fascinated him on a deeper, more primeval level.

“You will pay for murdering my sister in cold blood,” Lilith murmured. “As you took her life from the clan, yours shall replace it.”

Adrien’s senses spun away when Lilith spread her long hair spread across his torso. Eyes alight with anticipation, her adept tongue flicked out. Wetness swirled over the tip of his penis. She suckled in long deep strokes that stole away his breath and tightened his balls.

Anticipation ran riot through Adrien’s veins. Need pounding a strange rhythm in his temples, he felt a flame of desire shoot down to his balls, making them tingle and tighten. Lilith’s teeth scraped, a bit more pain to feed his deep-seated erotic desires.

He wasn’t willing–but he could be persuaded.

Appalled by his excitement, Adrien was also secretly intrigued by this strange world of sexual vampirism. Fantasies he’d never believed would be fulfilled were bursting into a painfully carnal kaleidoscope of sights, sounds and sensations. Sex was suddenly not just something to have or have done. It was sustaining nourishment drawing from the very core of energy that could create life itself.

Still, he desired it even as he despised it. The conflicting ideas were plunging him deeper into confusion. Sanity was slowly turning to madness as the carnal desires harbored in his heart took seed and sprouted. The devil had laid a feast before him and even though he should turn away and embrace the famine, he was a man of desires unfulfilled.

He hungered.

And he ate.

Watching from the edge of the bed, Devon Carnavorn grasped the bedpost, leaning closer. “Show him no mercy, Lilith. Take him in the most painful way.”

The malicious words drew Adrien from his enjoyable apathy. “I was sworn of an oath to erase your kind from this earth. I will not stop, no matter the hell you send me into.”

Despite his words, he was completely under the domination of these foul beasts. The ache to possess her completely worsened. Fiercer than his own disgust at his weakening will was the unquenchable desire to dominate Lilith the way she was controlling him.

Devon chuckled. “Heaven is just a sin away, my friend. Your lips say no, but your body betrays your piety. You can’t resist the needs of the flesh, so give in and have the benefit of what is so generously offered.”

The shackles of repression were easily cast aside.

I’m too weak, Adrien thought.

Pleasure took control.

Bracing his head on the pillow, Adrien moved his hips, savoring the way Lilith flicked her tongue over the tip before taking him deeply. His mouth felt incredibly arid, his lips tender from his hot breath rolling over them. He longed to be kissing her, holding her, needing to be inside that tight, velvety cunt, feeling her smooth belly against his as she writhed under his body.

Just as he was about to explode, Lilith drew back. She shifted and moved onto her knees, straddling his body. She lowered her hips to his in a smooth motion, guiding his erection into her welcoming depths. He could feel her thighs tightening against his hips. Her sex clenched his cock, soft as rose petals and strong as steel bands.

Lilith dug her nails into his shoulders, bringing a fresh pain of the most exquisite kind. Leaning forward, her mouth captured his in a long suckling kiss. He tasted his blood on her lips, a sample both forbidden and thrilling. Even as she kissed him, he could feel the strange ripples drawing away his sexual essences the way her lips had drawn in his life’s essences. She quivered violently when orgasm ripped through her.

Adrien’s own arousal was simmering at a heat threatening to boil over like a volcano disgorging molten lava. Straining against the ropes tying his wrists, he thrust his hips upward, driving deeper into her slick, silken channel.

Face framed with a tumble of dark hair, white teeth sinking into her lower lip, Lilith slammed back, grinding down on his cock. Bracing her hands on his shoulders, she rose a little, then back down, meeting his upcoming thrust with perfect synchronicity. The power of their joining was more erotic than anything he’d ever experienced.

Adrien lost control.

Lust searing his senses, he speared deep in one long thrust. Clenching his teeth, unable to hold back any longer, he felt the pull of his loins releasing. The muscles across his abdomen ridged, then rippled. Brain short-circuiting, a quake of pleasure thundered through him. Hot semen jetted. Lilith’s inner muscles rippled around his cock in long, blissful waves.

Adrien moaned, struggling to master his breathing. He was woozy, dizzy, feeling as though his very soul had been drained away.

Sleep would be welcome. Food even more.

The offering he was to receive for nourishment wasn’t what he anticipated.

Bodies still joined, Lilith retrieved her charm. Lifting her hand, she slashed through her palm.

Warm blood dripped onto Adrien’s chest, the droplets falling like shards of ice in a winter storm.

Lilith reached out and grasped his face. Her nails dug into his skin, the pressure at his jaws forcing his mouth open. Fierceness blazed behind her gaze. “Drink.” She positioned her bleeding hand over his mouth. “Drink of me, and shed your mortal shell.” Foul blood dribbled past his lips.

Gagging, Adrien twisted his face to one side. “No…” Stomach lurching, he spat her blood back at her.

With a little laugh, Lilith righted his head. Digging her fingers into his mouth and wrenching down his jaw, she fed him more of her blood.

Adrien renewed his efforts to refuse her offering, gagging and gurgling sickly through his efforts not to swallow even as his lungs burned from lack of air. He had to breathe to live.

He had to swallow.

Gasping, he reluctantly swallowed. The strange sweet taste coated his tongue, sliding like cold lead down his throat. When the chill hit his stomach, he could feel the exotic organism enter his veins, slithering through his body like an evil snake.

Adrien’s vision dimmed alarmingly as an unfamiliar euphoria overtook him. An unearthly and wholly incredible energy was burgeoning inside him, spawning outward like a child fighting to be birthed. He could not speak, he could not move. His flesh tingled as though consumed by an inner fire, feeling dry and papery. He could feel the energy pulsing, conquering, consuming…

His soul was being swallowed by the black entity stealing his mortality away.

Darkness rose.

Helpless, a mist shrouded his brain, spreading a strange numbness over his senses. Then unconsciousness claimed him, and he knew no more.

Wicked Excerpt

“Why is there a woman under your desk?”
Karl Dawson’s steps faltered as soon as he entered the office. He stopped walking to enjoy the view of the denim covered heart shaped ass sticking out from under his assistant’s desk. Definitely female. And the way it was tilted up at an angle that made his hand itch to spank.
“I’ve switched sides.” The smirk on Graham Nelson’s pretty face as he said that made it clear he was full of shit.
Dressed in black slacks, a purple shirt and a pink tie, he was such a flaming homosexual that Karl toyed with the urge to hose him down with the fire extinguisher, just to see what would happen.
Instead, all he did was raise an eyebrow, fix his assistant with a look, and deepen his voice slightly. “Graham.”
“My friend Lara. She’s installing a wireless network for us.” Graham stood back from his desk, planted a hand on his outthrust hip, and eyeballed him. “Your client base has increased thirty percent in the last two months alone. This is needed.”
Karl eyeballed him right back. The divorce business was booming, and Graham was right - his legal services were in high demand with no signs of slowing down.
Shit. He hated changes made to his computer. Computers were not his friend. Anything beyond email gave him a headache and Graham knew it. “If you put more crap on my computer and my life gets more difficult … so does yours.”
“Actually …” a muffled voice came from Graham’s desk and Karl tried not to notice his body’s reaction to the delectable ass wiggling and waving as the woman backed out from beneath it.
She stood casually, thick black locks streaming down her back as she tossed her head and met his gaze head on. “Once I get my hands on your laptop you’ll be able to connect to the Internet from pretty much anywhere in the building, including the restaurant downstairs. We’ve set up a dedicated server for your files and all your data has already been transferred. I can teach you how to navigate the new programs in less than fifteen minutes, and life will be easier for you both.”
Graham waved his hand airily. “Trust me on this, Mr. Dawson. The upgrade will make my job easier, therefore your life simpler.”
The words barely registered in his mind as Karl watched Lara check him out. He recognized the appreciation in her gaze and an answering hunger stirred inside him.
He arched an eyebrow her way. “You’re going to teach me?”
“Sure.” Her smile turned suggestive. “I have no problem teaching a man how to do things right.”
“I don’t usually need instruction from my women.”
She shrugged. “All men need instruction at some point or another.”
Fire leapt to life inside of him, but Karl didn’t bother to respond. It had been a hell of a morning and he wasn’t really in the mood to deal with attitude from anyone, sexy or not.
And she was very sexy.
Bright blue eyes, smooth honey colored skin, and lush cocksucking lips made her very tempting, but she wore her arrogant attitude like a second skin. A second skin that blanketed a small, tight body in faded jeans and a skimpy pink t-shirt that made it clear she wasn’t wearing a bra. When his gaze lingered on her pert breasts, her nipples hardened and surprisingly, his mouth watered.
The image of her stretched out on his bed, tied down and still trying to tell him what to do flashed through his mind and he shook his head. She’d be too much work.
“I’ll be in my office when you’re ready.” He strode into his office, aware of her eyes on him as he walked, and closed the door.
Spring fever had hit full force this year and he’d been fighting his restlessness for a while. How it happened he didn’t know. Work was great. The divorce business was booming, and as one of the city’s top sharks in that pool, he was making more than enough money to make him happy.
Women had always been easy for him. He wasn’t blessed with particularly good looks, his blond hair had just enough curl to make it unruly and his brown eyes were nothing to speak of, but women still wanted him. Even more so since he’d started making the big bucks.
He could get as much sex as he wanted, in any way he wanted, and he’d enjoyed it a lot in the past. But lately, sex just didn’t seem to be enough to hold his interest, and the fighting and negotiating of high profit divorce work was becoming tedious.
At least when he was at The Dungeon he knew it was him the women wanted. When the divorcees and society ladies he met through work hit on him, he was sure they wanted the successful lawyer, not the man.
And yet, last night, for the third time in the last two weeks he’d left The Dungeon alone.
The underground sex club had been his playground for many years, and his reputation as a Dominant had grown so much that offers for companionship were never lacking. More than a couple of offers for sexual play had been made the night before, but he’d turned them all down.
If one of his regular playmates, Jan or Marie, had been there he might’ve been into it. His girls were always eager to please, and that was always fun, but he hadn’t been in the mood for someone new. Strange considering he used to thrive on the challenge of training a new submissive, or just having a new girl for one night. But, the usual sex games had become … boring.
Hell, his life had become boring. Something was missing.
A sharp rap on his door had him shaking his thoughts off, and focusing on the day ahead. “Come on in.”
Lara strode into his office, a challenging smile on her lips and a gleam in her eye. “Ready for your lessons?”
This one was definitely not boring.
Yet, something tightened in Karl’s chest when he looked at her, and he wasn’t sure if it was annoyance, amusement, or … arousal.
Lara Fox couldn’t help herself, she loved flirting too much.
She’d flirt pretty much anytime, anywhere, and with anyone. It made her feel good - made her feel strong and sexy, and in control.
Normally she didn’t initiate flirtations unless she was looking to pick someone up for a night, or hustling him at
